Happy Holidays World!!!!

I hope everybody enjoyed/ is enjoying themselves. I had a nice one myself, a long one, but in a good way. Christmas Eve I could not go to sleep for some reason, so like three hours after I finally do, I'm back up again and its time to open gifts and all...then that afternoon all the family came over to eat and we just congregated and stuffed ourselves till about seven, and after that I was ready to crash! As fortune would have it though, about a 1/4 after, I get a call to go to a Christmas party, I'm almost too tired to answer the phone, but its people I used to work with so I go for it. On the way up, we stop in at another friends house to bring tidings of joy, camp there for a minute then keep going. By the time I get back, it's after 11-o-clock, and I'm reminded that my boy from Grambling State is going back up tomorrow. Well I CAN'T just let him leave without saying peace!!! Y'know that just uncivilized!!!! So, I get right back into my car, and head south this time. Long story short, Mancel has got to be one of the funniest cats I know, sober or drunk, but especially drunk, and I didnt get home until 4 this morning. But I saw my peeps off, and got to visit with often missed friends so it was all worth it.

Don't know what's on the plate for New Year's, but I'm looking forward to it whatever it is. Enjoy the festivities ya'll, don't drink and drive, spread love and holla back!

Phew!

Alright, let's see, two weeks, three days, fourteen pageants, two 1/4tet gigs, and one steel pan show later...Tyler is amazingly still holding it down! Don't know how, but I'm still lovin it! The Fort Lauderdale Christmas Pageant was amazing! An awesome three-week run, I could do it for another three weeks, faaaa, we could go on the road with that!!!!!!!! The 1/4tet (quartet if you haven't caught it yet...) gigs were nice, the first was a warm up, and the wedding went really nicely. It was well organized, and I like to think we contributed at least a little to the atmosphere, playing on the boat was definitely fun. Leon "Foster" Thomas' solo gig was......Beyond explanation. It's insane. And luckily, I already received a copy of a rough mix of the pageant, which will be airing on Christmas Eve on PBS (it's last years show...), and hopefully soon I'll be getting a C.D. if not a D.V.D. of Foster's show. Regardless the combination of events has led me to devote the rest of my vacation to practicing, which I have been faithful to up to this point.

A lot has been going on along the sidelines recently too! My boy Winston is affianced and will be moving to the west coast within the next few weeks, I was trying to make arrangements to make a sojourn to Winsconsin for a lil vacation, then that didn't develop and my cousin from Winsconsin was supposed to make her way down here, but that fell through, you know how collegiate finances go....The weather has finally started to change, its actually averaging BELOW 80 DEGREES, and I'm loving every minute of it (I must be the only cat in Fort Lauderdale who's still driving with his windows rolled down)! My peoples who went off for school are starting to file they're way back home so I'm reconnecting on that front.....and life is still, just really good. It's almost scary, things are beautiful right now (even with no job((Especially with no job))), so I'm trying not to take anything for granted. It's free now, but I'll probably have to earn it later...it's been worth it though. Umm... let's see what else? Man, it's been so long I almost forgot I have a site! Oh yeah big up to Neil Weiss and Big World Music (check out www.bigworldmusic.com) for putting me up on this Candombe phenomenon. (check out www.candombe.com while you're at it!) I am now an aid in the epic quest to bring awareness of candombe to the states. To the real heads anyway, it'd be hell if they tried to commercialize it.

So that's pretty much that for now. To anybody whose been keeping up with me, sorry for the wait, but I'm back now.

Happy Birthday Jaco Pastorius!
(lemme just do my whole list now! also: Neil Weiss (Big World Recordings in the house) Alan Goldstein (it's about damn time I got to hear you play man), early b-days to Janice, Nitzy, Cory, Sonya Lee (I still ain't seen the baby....you're slippin miss!) my boy Popp stressing out in Vegas, and the empress who brought me to this plane. All Sagittarius holding it down, let's get it!!!!! Aight then...moving ahead!

The spirit most definitely lives on! I went out to Alligator Alley last night after our last pageant show see Way of the Groove (my People's & South Florida;s best kept secret!) and Jaco's sons have never sounded better. I didn't get there until the second set but once I got there..... Leon Thomas, that steel pan player I'm doing the show with on Saturday (#1 pan soloist in the entire world ), sat in on a couple of numbers, and so did So. Fla's own hand percussionist Dave Shelly, and they both brought the sound up like 5 notches, which would seems pretty impossible if you'd heard the band on their own. A few others came and sat in: Stro on guitar (killing as usual!), Cat named drew on set (murder!!!!!! Cat was explosive from the first crash!), trumpet player whose name I forgot but he held his weight on Chameleon (always a favorite of mine). I had been playing all weekend, and I was dead tired from the two shows I had just played, so I didnt get on my axe (yeah yeah I know, excuses, excuses). Aight Screw it! I wasn't getting on stage with that crew! I mean sometimes it was like I couldn't even clap, I was just.....I don't even know if the phrase exists in the English language man! See, shows like that, are the reason I don't call myself a musician. These are all young cats, 18-25 and this is the best ish I've ever heard!!! It kills me because my goal is to reach the level their at now before I die (I'm looking forward to a very long, long, long life....), just based on how much they've grown since the last b-day concert, I'm scared to think of where these guys'll be by the time I graduate!
If anybody is interested in recieving a copy of last night's gig, e-mail me and lemme know where to send it (Dad, yours'll be there by Christmas {for real this time!}) Oh, everybody, don't forget to check www.jacop.net they should have something on the birthday gig up pretty soon.

Aight so the time is at hand, I've got I think 14 more pageant shows, a 1/4tet gig on wednsday, Leon's show is Sunday night, and then the next saturday is the big wedding gig for the 1/4 tet. All this playing man...I love it! But dag yo, I need to practicing! I got a long way to go, guess that's what the long life is for huh? Aight, anybody I missed on the birthday list, apologies, but its all good, ya'll know ya'll not gettin any presents anyway!!!!!!!!! It's all love, so spread it! (Spread, spread for me....Outkast forever!) Lemme go ahead and shout out my January births too! Colin, Jim, Mancel aka Moncrief, JoJo, and Beaver (don't ask you wouldnt understand...its a dragon thing) not Sagittarius, but close enough to a Cuban to smoke it!

Aight everybody string up, grab the warpaint and spread the baby powder cuz we're celebrating today!

Holla
